Someone is Wrong on the Internet!

xkcd
I started the process of going upstairs to go to bed about 90 minutes ago.

Then I saw this on Twitter.
Data as presented by Vox (no fidelity of axis scale)

Y'all see the problem right?

No? Just me then...

The casual reader would believe the top liberal spenders in 2012 considerably outspent the top conservative spenders in 2012. Just look at how the aqua seafoam shame colored bars go out farther than the red red wine bars. They're girthier too.

Below: When plotted together (or separately but using the same axis range) the data show the reverse.

Now you're probably thinking "hey, the numbers next to the bars will tip people off" and that's why you're lucky. You naively think that people understand numbers, and to a lesser extent words.

If people understand the numbers why are the bars there?

Exactly.

Now if you'll excuse me I am going to take my nerve pills and try to sleep.

Song of the Day: "Walk Tall"

I've been getting emails from this dude, Tarmac Adam, promoting his new music. So I listened to this song (the video playing on a tab behind what I was actively "reading" [cam what?]) and I thought "oh, hey, this is a song for people who liked Peter Gabriel back in 1990."

And then I switched tabs to see the video. It's also a video for people who liked Peter Gabriel back in 1990!

But it's not a dude! It's a band. Despite the one (Matt O'Donnell) dude's face in the video, there's a whole band that includes Nick Seymour and the sadly departed Paul Hester of the amazingly good Crowded House.

Don't know Crowded House? Go, listen, learn, enjoy. You're welcome.

Song of the Day: "Saturday Night Gave Me Sunday Morning"

Pretty sure Hozier had something to do with this
Phil X (not his real name)
Bon and the Jovis are back, but with 1 fewer Jovi of real importance: Richard Stephen Sambora is no longer a Jovi. To be replaced by this guy? Phil X! As if.

I've just edited Richie Sambora's Wikipedia entry but not as a show business award buzz kill. Just to clarify some awkward grammar.

A more cynical man (cough) might have assumed the Bon was making an entire faith rock album, trying to tap into a new audience. Turns out it's just this song. I'm sure the other songs are all about hoes and bitches and drugs and thugs, just like normal.

Song of the Day: "Happy Days"

It's some kind of Fonzie scheme
Why this song wasn't released 6 or 8 weeks ago to qualify as "song of the summer" in the minds of the people who demand that a song be named "song of summer" and also expect to do that in May or early June (when it is not yet summer)? Not that anyone who demands a "song of summer" would have heard it and/or cared, but OMG it's fucking awesome. WINNER!

Song of the Day: "High Time"

Something something awesome new ("new") music from Kacey Musgraves who, I swear, changes how her name is spelled every few minutes.

Did I mention the awesome part?
