Song of the Day: "Air Balloon"

More from Lily Allen. Her inconsistency keeps me on my feet.

Song of the Day: "Fall in Love"

I'm in instantly in love with this new track from Phantogram (a band I haven't featured here since 2010) but I'm totally distracted by a tangent. The title reminds me of one of Meryl Streep and Robert DeNiro's on-screen pairings: Falling in Love. Everyone remember that? It was their second time in a movie together.

And OMG OMG OMG there appears to be a mathematical pattern to their pairings.
1978: The Deer Hunter
1984: Falling in Love
1996: Marvin's Room
Coming in 2014: The Good House

Can you see the pattern? Of course you can, I mean you'd have to be a fucking idiot to not see it.

6 years between the first pair, 12 years between the second pair, 18 years between the third pair (in case you're a fucking idiot)

By the way, it's been forever since I saw The Deer Hunter, and was probably too young to appreciate it and certainly too freaked out by the Russian roulette scenes to watch it without my hands in front of my face. I say that as a disclaimer for my declaring Marvin's Room to be the best of the 3--my favorite of the 3 is probably a better characterization. Both movies have stellar casts doing great work but only one of them is Russian roulette-free.

Also I really like this song.

Song of the Day: "Blue Moon"

Erin says it's Simon & Garfunkel + Wish You Were Here + Neil Young while I hear Pet Sounds + Gordon Lightfoot.

Your mileage may vary.

Oh, it's new Beck, if that wasn't clear.

Song of the Day: "Lost Boys and Girls Club"

New from Dum Dum Girls. The song I planned to post had a Blondie feel to it, this one has a bit of that balanced out with the Motels.

And if you think the Motels and Blondie are from the same lineage then, okay, whatev.

Song of the Day: "Crime"

New music from Real Estate. Enjoying the song and I find the video concept rather clever.

No, serious.

R.I.P. Harold Ramis

Now who you gonna call?

When I heard he passed I knew instantly what scene I wanted to post and I put it up on Facebook. Anyone even remotely aware of his involvement in Caddyshack or Animal House or Stripes will think this is lame as shit, but it's the scene in Ghostbusters II that actually establishes him as something of an almost 3-dimensional character. And this exact clip sets everything up except... they end this clip before he says "now take the puppy away."

I feel like someone took my puppy away.

My 7:00 call was cancelled so I'm going to my room to, um, meditate.

Rest in peace dude. And I want that puppy back. Hello?

Song of the Day: "Everything is Awesome"

[UPDATE: Crap, I meant to credit Eric and/or Erin for sharing this frenetic little ditty with me. Then I didn't. Another thing not awesome. Oh well...]

In addition to a series of hijinks worthy of a Scooby-Doo episode ending in something like a 5+-hour fight last night, one of my teenage sons left my car window rolled down all night last night so my car interior was, what's the word, WET when I came in to work.

So everything is NOT awesome.

Does anyone have a recommendation for how to dispose of a body? I'm, um, asking for a friend.

Oh, and I do want to see The Lego Movie.
