Song of the Day: "Bottoms Up"

When last we posted a song by Brantley Gilbert (here) it was a celebration of a fresh new voice in country music and not, as some cynics might suggest, just an opportunity to post gratuitously shirtless photos of a hunky young man.

I called him a "musician type person" (which, yes, should have a hyphen between musician and type) and that's not just a phrase one applies with a cursory listen or less.

We return to Brantley Gilbert with a song that I'm surprised Kenny Chesney passed on and the good news is that there are more gratuitously shirtless photos.
Taste of Country says that Gilbert finds the sweet spot between rowdy and romantic.

They also call him a bad boy.

Gilbert writes all of his own songs, so ‘Bottoms Up’ doesn’t feel fake or cliche despite being thematically similar to many bro-country songs. Tailgates, Daisy Dukes, Bonnie and Clyde and parties beneath the moonlight are all elements of popular songs from 2013, but the 28-year-old’s unique delivery adds a fresh coat of paint.--Taste of Country
This sounds like a fresh coat of paint to me. But I will point out that these are actual lyrics to the song:
Turn the radio up so the girl can sing right
Pull into the party like “y’all wassup”
And in summary, also from Taste of Country: "sometimes, a good chill country-rock song that doesn’t make you think is what’s needed." If that is what's needed, then we have a winner.

Song of the Day: "Shot Me Down"

David Guetta and Skylar Grey... I guess this was inevitable.

I suppose the real surprise is that Pharrell isn't on this.

Song of the Day: "All Our Endless Love"

Martin Hewitt
This new track from The Bird and the Bee, with help from Matt Berninger from The National reminds me of that movie that starred Brooke Shields and Martin Hewitt.

Which made me think of that movie with Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins.

Which made me realize that Brooke Shields makes horrible movies and left chaos and confusion in her wake.

And, AND, she turned Michael Jackson gay... probably.

And Judd Nelson.

I'm guessing.
