Song of the Day: "Lovers in the Parking Lot"

So I am intentionally posting a Solange song along with a Sky song and OMG these were supposed to be scheduled for Sunday but fuck it.

Song: "Lovers in the Parking Lot"
Artist: Solange

Song of the Day: "24 Hours"

Remember last year's singles list (of course you do, it's insulting to even suggest you don't)... well hey, it will be a thing of consistency if Sky Ferreira makes the list again in 2014.

It'll be a weird thing of consistency if Solange is adjacent to her on both lists.

It's just crazy enough to work!!!

Song: "24 Hours"
Artist: Sky Ferreira

Song of the Day: "Sirens"

It's entirely possible that Pearl Jam is our generation's Rolling Stones, producing consistently not embarrassing music for decades. There are far worse things to be (Fred Durst).

Song: "Sirens"
Artist; Pearl Jam

Song of the Day: "Elephant"

Several months old from Tame Impala--this is about my singles review for 2013 more than it is about introducing you to new music... obviously.

Song of the Day: "Ain't No Hat For That"

Guess who picked up the recent Robin Thicke CD from the liberry?

No, not Stevie Nicks...

Song: "Ain't No Hat For That"
Artist: Robin Thicke

Song of the Day: "Walking Down Madison"

It turns out Kirsty MacColl (r.i.p.) wrote her classic song for Alison Moyet and now, 20 years later, Alison covers it as part of a tribute concert in Kirsty's honor (seriously, rest in peace dude). If this convergence isn't awesome for you then what is your fucking problem?

Seriously, go back to work in customer "service" at the defective calendar company?

Song: "Walking Down Madison"
Artist: Alison Moyet

Song of the Day: "Any Weather"

Am I personally responsible for getting Joan Jett inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? I think we can all agree that it would be a stretch for me to claim full responsibility.

That being said, yes, I'm mostly the reason. That plus her music from 30 years ago. But really it's probably me. After all if I hadn't tweeted about how girls don't rock and thus are ineligible, my Swiftian satire working its charms, I'm sure she and Heart and Donna Summer would still be sitting outside, in Cleveland. I know.

So you're welcome ladies. Next up: Pat Benetar. Seriously R&RHoF, what the fuck?

Song: "Any Weather"
Artist: Joan Jett, also possibly Blackhearts

Song of the Day: "What's Going On?"

Had I paid closer attention I might have noticed that the track referenced by the Fabulous Clinton, who is fabulous, is pretty new. Lucky for all of us my blogging has been a nightmare of inconsistency and angst and there's room for multiple songs of the day on those days when maybe I remember that I have a blog (see, I'm like the rest of you).

Look for this in contention for 2013 singles of the year. Clinton typically sneaks in 2 or 3 and I'm taking to this more than AlunaGeorge.

Song: "What's Going On?"
Artist: Monsieur Adi/A*M*E

Song of the Day: "Play the Game Boy"

This track from A*M*E comes to us indirectly from the Fabulous Clinton, who is fabulous. He tipped me off to another track featuring A*M*E that samples Soul II Soul (whom he referenced in terms of their "oldies" status [not his words, just, sigh, mine recapping his note]).

Long story short: I am old and this song is not called "Play the Gameboy" which would be a great way to make friends at Nintendo (OMG, it wasn't a Gameboy it was a Game Boy, so clearly A*M*E (real name Aminata Kabba) is currying favor with Nintendo, just at a really slow pace).

Yes the track is from late last year but look on the bright side: now you know A*M*E's real name.

Song of the Day: "Someone Who"

This track from Au Revoir Simone (a brilliant band name) is 13 places away from the Beck track on My Old Kentucky Blog's best songs of 2013 list, but they sound quite complementary to each other to me.

Song: "Someone Who"
Artist: Au Revoir Simone

Song of the Day: "I Won't Be Long"

I'm going to try to make up some missed posts and the time I posted Black Joe Lewis a second time (since deleted). Here's a track from Beck and I'm confused by the recent Beck--I think it's sheet music only (although possibly some vinyl).

Anyway, here we are...

Song: "I Won't Be Long"
Artist: Beck

Song of the Day: "Shaker Aamer"

PJ Harvey sings a little ditty for the prisoners at Guantanamo... fun!
