Song of the Day: "Hey Brother"

Dan Tyminski from Union Station is the voice for this track from Avicii's debut album ("Levels" being an international hit single wasn't from an album, this his debut). Sadly this song is not an ode to Arrested Development... except in my mind now.

OMG Tony Hale won an Emmy y'all!

Song of the Day: "Latitudes"

Crap, I am a little late posting this. This captures the mood of those autumn days when summer fades into history.

This, by the way, is the title track from Lizzie Davis's sophomore album, Latitudes.

Song of the Day: "I Drive Your Truck"

A smarter man would have posted this on Veteran's Day since the song was inspired by an interview on NPR (pause to consider a country music song inspired by an interview on the flaming godless bastion of liberals at National Public Radio) with the father of a soldier killed in Afghanistan who still drives the truck in question to feel closer to his son.

Jared Monti was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2006. His dad, Paul Monti, organized Operation Flags for Vets in Jared's honor.

And I have nothing snarky to say about either of them or this song.

Song of the Day: "Samson"

Previously on the Rebel Agenda we were including VV Brown in the post-Amy Winehouse rush by record labels to have a retro R&B girl singer (see also: Adele, Duffy). Eric made the possibly valid/probably racist comment that it's more impressive if the singer who sounds black isn't actually black.

Her follow-up album, Lollipops & Politics, was scheduled for release early last year and hit a delay that smells a lot like the A&R guy at her label telling her it wasn't commercial and needed more hits.

Then she announced she was pulling the album and this year she self-released Samson & Delilah, a moody, complex and rich album far more sophisticated than one (meaning me) might have expected based the last album (not the one that she yanked). I bought a copy today based on this summary: Grace Jones meets Kate Bush. I'll let you know.

How's He Doing?

Song of the Day: "Chain My Name"

Don Shula, not a myth,
the only NFL perfect season
Poliça from their second album Shulamith.

The album is named after Shulamith Firestone, the radical feminist and not Don Shula. Go figure.

Details on her life are here.

Song of the Day: "Wild West Heart"

Jadea Kelly is not Jade King, which is a lovely Chinese restaurant somewhere, it seems.

She is a Canadian folk singer. (It helps if you entire the right name into your web search.)

Clover is her third album.
