Song of the Day: "Evil Eye"

Franz Ferdinand from their new album Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action (album number 4 if you're not counting).

They're Scottish. That's all I'm gonna say.

Like a thing in an unrelated other thing

Clark mentioned a thing he heard on a documentary and said the size of something relative to the outer shell of that something (it had to do with atoms, I think, but we also talked about cells and bacteria, so I'm intentionally being vague) was like a basketball in a cathedral.

Question: do they play basketball in cathedrals? Like if that's the actual name of a basketball playing place, then this whole post is moot. But I'm pretty sure it's not. We have a basketball playing place here in Portland, the Mo... Duh Arena. And it's NOT called the Mo... Duh Cathedral. I'm pretty sure it's not.

Although as a highly influential blogger that might change starting now...

I told him cathedral was a too abstract for me and asked if the metaphor could be "like a basketball in a gymnasium" and he said no, the outer shell would be more like a football stadium.

So like a basketball in a football stadium. Which is a nearly perfect metaphor what with basketballs being in football stadiums around the world. In fact the metaphor could only be improved if there were a different item, similar in size to a basketball, that was actually more common in a football stadium.

The only thing I could come up with was a seedless watermelon, and I doubt those are more common.

Song of the Day: "Wasps"

"Wasps"
The Red Paintings are from Australia and this track is from The Revolution is Never Coming, their second full length album (but there's a swarm of EPs so it balances out).

This song sounds like that band, you know, the other one that sounds like this.

Possibly the Offspring.

Song of the Day: "All Things at Once"

Had a really crappy day today. The vet found and removed 3 more tumors from Gracie today (originally planned to do 1). She looks like Frankenstein's monster and is stoned on the couch. Sigh.

Heard this track from Tired Pony for the first time tonight. It hit my mood for the evening. Pensive and pissed.

Obviously dude from Snow Patrol is singing, but as a super group he's assisted with dudes from R.E.M., Young Fresh Fellows, Belle and Sebastian and other folks. Check the wiki thingy here if curious.

Song of the Day: "It's You"

Something new from Duck Sauce. It lost the VMA for Best Visual Effects to Capital Cities and Best Use of Black Light to Drake.

Song of the Day: "The One That Got Away"

The Civil Wars's follow up to their Grammy-winning debut, Barton Hollow, may end up being their last as a band. The husband and wife team that make up the core of the band are taking a hiatus due to "internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition" (take that Renée Zellweger and Kenny Chesney).

The new album, boringly called The Civil Wars (Jesus Christ people, it doesn't cost you any extra to pick a title that isn't the band name... fuck) is said to echo the tensions in the relationship in one of those "break-ups make for great albums" ways. See also: Fleetwood Mac's Rumors and Richard and Linda Thompson's Shoot Out the Lights.

Strangely the album Kenny Chesney released after his divorce from Renée, The Road and the Radio, has the lowest Metacritic score of any of his albums... just saying.
