Song of the Day: "Just Beneath the Surface"

I'd been comparing Dawes with the Eagles, generally in a favorable way, since I took to their second album. A review of this album compared them with Jackson Brown, in a generally favorable way.

I like that better.

Your mileage may vary.

Especially if you're Daryl Hannah.

Song of the Day: "Architect"

Frightened Rabbit and the Manchester Orchestra collaborated on a Record Store Day release that I was giddy to discover for $1.29 as a digital download from Amazon, just validating my decision to eschew the human interaction required on such an otherwise laudable day.

And now that I've used enough of my SAT vocabulary words, I'm Audi...

Counting down the days...

Songs of the Day: "Giorgio by Moroder"/"Racer"

Two songs today to play catch-up from earlier in the week. First is Daft Punk, dropping some sweet beats behind an interview with Giorgio Moroder from Random Access Memory.

Next is "Racer" by Moroder himself. It's the soundtrack to a game for Google Chrome (possibly the browser, possibly the OS, who can say).

I'm probably not thinking hard enough

Or am I thinking too hard?

It must be the end of sweeps

And the finale for Stefon

I'll miss Hedar most as Lindsey Buckingham in the way overly done What's Up With That? Hey look, Kenan Thompson isn't leaving the show... another 10 episodes of that (at least).

Fred Armisen goes out on a classy note

Bill Hader and Fred Armisen made their final appearances as SNL cast regulars Saturday. Hader's exit, a sendoff for Stefon, is great: big, packed with cameos and funny. Armisen, who I often call tedious, went out with a quiet and excellent bang. Carrie Brownstein, Steve Jones, J Mascis and Kim Gordon helped. Classy. (UPDATE: didn't even see Aimee Mann until just now)

Song of the Day: "Fifth in Line to the Throne"

Camera Obscura, along with Neko Case, taking it down a bit from the new thing for which they're touring which overlaps with Lelando's big day but we won't talk about that at all if he comes to the show with us that night.

We're playing it by ear.

Song of the Day: "Collapse Rebuild"

Suddenly it's Monday and I didn't post a song or a birthday thing for my dad yesterday. Weird.

Meanwhile here's a new track from Trapped in Kansas who are from Scotland and, based on this, may qualify as math rock. Because the "Scottish music" thing and the math rock maybe-it's-a-thing weren't enough individually. Now they're combined.

Heading to SF in a few hours. Act casual.
