Song of the Day: "We Come Running"

Youngblood Hawke take their name from a Herman Wouk novel, but you probably knew that 'cause you're all literary and shit. Me too.

The movie version stars Éva Gábor and Suzanne Pleshette and is probably not a good way to get a low score at Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon.

The band comes to my attention probably as a song of the week on iTunes. I'm easily swayed sometimes. They're from LA and this is what the kids today call maximalist pop. Or what the PR people who work for bands claim the kids today call music like this. It's entirely possible they're as clueless as me.

As clueless as I.

One of those.

Negroes please

(h/t Brandon Doughan on the Twitterzes)

The good people at Floating Sheep aggregated racist tweets during the election and came to a stunning conclusion: there are racists in the deep south.

Oh, sorry, I hope you were sitting just then.

Floating Sheep
Details at the site but, c'mon, what's not already pretty fucking clear?

Fun in the milieu

Apparently not everyone was excited by Barack HUSSEIN Obama's reelection as Black President of America. And some people took to the Twitterzes to speak their minds. Or what counts as their minds.

My favorites?

Donald (4 bankruptcies, 2 divorces [and counting]) Trump had this to say:
  • Well, back to the drawing board!
  • He lost the popular vote by a lot and won the election. We should have a revolution in this country!
  • The phoney electoral college made a laughing stock out of our nation. The loser one!
  • We can’t let this happen. We should march on Washington and stop this travesty. Our nation is totally divided!
  • Lets fight like hell and stop this great and disgusting injustice! The world is laughing at us.
  • More votes equals a loss…revolution!
  • This election is a total sham and a travesty. We are not a democracy!
  • Our country is now in serious and unprecedentedt rouble…like never before.
  • Our nation is a once great nation divided!
  • The electoral college is a disaster for a democracy.
The loser one (sic)! That's some high level word usage there.

Fun fact: Obammer won both the popular vote and the Electoral College. I wonder where Donald Trump was living back in 2000 when the scenario he describes actually happened.

And Ted Nugent... musician? Retired musician turned bow hunting enthusiast/loud mouth but actually a pussy (he was all "I'll kill Obama" until the Secret Service said something... pussy).
  • Goodluk America u just voted for economic & spiritual suicide. Soulless fools.
  • Pimps whores & welfare brats & their soulless supporters hav a president to destroy America.
  • So Obama still demands the hardest workers provide for the nonwotkers. Shared opportunitiesmy *ss.
  • What subhuman varmint believes others must pay for their obesity booze cellphones birthcontrol abortions & lives.
I wonder who the hardest workers are. Him?

Fun fact: Mitt Romney hunts varmints!

But no one was more amusing than me:
  • Has John McCain announced his candidacy for Senate in 2014?
  • At least it will be much easier for Mitch McConnell and John Boehner to stop a third Obama term. #ResumeStatusQuo
  • Somebody should check on Orly Taitz this morning.
  • Tag Romney is really angry right now.
  • I bet Newt Gingrich went to see Argo tonight.
  • Romney now running for Prime Minister in the Caymans.
  • Joe fucking Biden!!!
  • Nate Silver's still gay.
  • Republicans retain House so let the Impeachment proceedings begin.
  • Allen West out, Alan Grayson back in.
  • How about now, Arizona State?
  • I'm sure Sarah Palin or Donald Trump would have won.
  • Hard to believe UnSkewed Poll's numbers not accurate. The credibility of reweighting data you don't like is called into question.
  • Did Ryan Lochte win anything?
  • Mitt Romney died on the way to his home planet. #Poochie
  • So much for that jobs-creating machine.
  • When are they coming for guns?
  • Viva Romneycare!
  • Dear Michigan, I lied, your trees are all weird. Signed, Mitt Romney
  • Billy Baldwin won a Senate seat?
  • How's Nate Silver's track record holding up? Still a witch? So Scott Brown's single then? I mean unemployed...

Non-elevator quote of the day

Most people, most good people, do not like to demonize others let alone their fellow citizens. You make demonizing people a major part of your platform and the propaganda that motivates your base. Let me repeat that: you demonize people as a means to inspire people. And your base eats it up. Whether it’s denying adults the fundamental human right to marry whoever they wish, painting other religions as stupid or evil without looking in the mirror as to how stupid or evil your religion is, or actually believing that anyone—especially your fellow Americans that have different political ideas and solutions—are immoral and treasonous. We know all this because it’s all you talk about. You have nothing to add to the conversation but vitriol.--"Open Letter to Conservative America" from Left Hemispheres

Song of the Day: "Requiem in Denim and Leopardskin"

The genius of the Pet Shop Boys should not be overlooked.

But it is.

I love the song, the tone, the narrative, the orchestration. I wish I knew what the fuck they were making reference to.

Who knows, maybe it'll inspire another rock anthem from Axl Rose.

This is from Elysium and if you think of PSB as some 80s one-hit wonder band, I want you to go to your room and think about what you've done.

Quote of the day

"I don't know you and I don't want to talk to you. No offense but I don't like talking to strange men."--Some bitch on the elevator in Seattle who I made the mistake of trying to politely chit chat with

Lesson learned.

Voting was sooo 2 weeks ago

Oregon: 100% vote by mail with a large window in which to fill in your ballot. No lines, no intimidation, no interacting with other humans!

And you can check the status of your ballot online to make sure it was tallied.

In the past 15 years has it become more of a hassle for you to vote? Wonder why that is....

Election day quote of the day

(h/t I Love Charts)

"If you love America and you want it back, there’s only one choice for President: Merlin L. Miller"--Dave Gahary of American Free Press
I do love America.

I do want it back. Back from, you know... them. All them minorities who think they are equal under god and the law and whatnot. That's mighty uppity of them.

I had no idea a man like Merlin Miller was even running for President.

This comes From Merlin's website's section on Family
Unfortunately, many white American men and women have misplaced their priorities: Individualism and hyper-materialism have become more important than family and community. Millions of our youth have been coerced into destructive Marxist politically correct philosophy through television, radio and print media. The exclusive groups that dominate these mass media outlets have methodically imposed a degenerate influence on our people.
We must return to a strengthened family unit as the norm for society. We support traditional marriage. We must revitalize the sense of community in the U.S. that we had shared for two hundred years.
White people, I always knew it was the white people that were to blame.

Song of the Day: "Breakers"

It's been over 2 years since Local Natives were song of the day with "Airplanes" -- seems like only yesterday. It wasn't.

Despite the name the band is neither local to nor natives of Portland. That joke hasn't gotten old in 2+ years.

Hummingbird, their second album, comes out in January which is next year. It's next year already.

Song of the Day: "Shuggie"

From Foxygen's forthcoming We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic.

Better them than me, I think we can all agree.

And before you go thinking "oh great, another indie Brooklyn band" they're only partially from there. Part from LA and part Olympia.

Oh noes, is Olympia the new Portland? I'm suddenly feeling retro.

Is Nate Silver a witch?

Charlie Loyd (@vruba on the Twitterz) answers the question at Is Nate Silver a Witch.com.
From Is Nate Silver a Witch.com

Disclaimer: while Nate Silver is not, at this point, a witch, he is still a gay. Thus he IS probably a bitch. You know the gayz... "jungle red" (look it up).

Take off your blindfold...

I don't know anyone like this.

At all.

Song of the Day: "Decisions"

Liam Hemsworth
The lyric "bitches love cake" seems misogynistic to me. EVERYBODY loves cake, right?

This song/video is a hot mess. It's a good depiction of my weekend. Lots of confusion.

It's  אסף בורגר‎ which is Hebrew for Asaf Borger, who goes by the name Borgore professionally, and a dude named Miley Cyrus (I have no idea what that is in Hebrew), and that's Liam Hemsworth in the unicorn mask. Porn star Jessie Andrews is in the video although as she is female I wouldn't know her, but one of y'all might.

I'm not sure about the goat or the little people.

But I am sure that everybody loves cake, not just bitches.
