Song of the Day: "Tuck the Darkness In"

I am easily distracted
My limited ability to create and retain new memory (hey, when I say it like that it sounds like a valid medical concern and not me getting confused a lot and distracted by shiny things [shirtless men]) leads me to the following conclusion about today's band, Bowerbirds.

I don't think I've heard any of their earlier albums.

I'm pretty sure.

But there's a mood to the music that is so instantly familiar that I'm assuming I have, in some random, unlikely place.

An actual bowerbird
Did you tell me about Bowerbirds at some point?

They're playing at Pickathon in August (2 gigs).

J-rod is flying back from Maryland for Pickathon (Langhorne Slim is playing, so, duh). I should look for a day to go (it's a reasonable drive and no camping required of me) once single day tickets are available.

IF single day tickets become available (apparently Pickathon is the shit, if you're into that kind of twangy music, which I am often).

But RV camping and car camping are both sold out for reals. I'm disappointed as well.

Song of the Day: "We Become Wolves"

I need a fucking break. I'm going to take one, in like an hour, so here's what you need to know about Enola Fall, the band behind today's song of the day: I don't know anything about them, except they're Tasmanian.

And I love the urgency and complexity of the rhythm in the track.

And vocally maybe I'm seeing too much OMD in it, because Enola Fall, "Enola Gay,"  but seriously, there might be something to it, get over yourself.

And so ends your introduction to Enola Fall. You're welcome.

This is how I encourage my friends

Another someecard I can't share with the world.

Excellence in memes, Carly Rae Jepsen edition

Yes, here we are again. WTF is wrong with the world when dogs are better lip-synchers than humans? "I have abs, I can't be expected to remember lyrics," it would seem. Still hairless and pretty, like the divers all over again. H/T to Dirty Sexy Johnny for this one.

Gracie enjoyed this one.

And can I just get a fucking amen for the Roots?!

Song of the Day: "This Girl"

I felt so late to the Avett Brothers party ("Daughty? as if!!!"-J-rod) that maybe I'm overcompensating, looking for the next twangy delight under any hillbilly rock I can find. Like one in Tennessee where somebody attending the Bonnaroos (related to Underoos? probably) wrote about these guys. Hey, twangy sound, also brothers, I'm certainly getting there first (d'oh, nope!).

Still, it's not like you bothered to mention them to me, so I still feel superior (which is my default position if you think about it [and even if you don't]). And, AND, that's totally a Housemartins-ish jangle to the guitars beginning :10 in. So suck it, 'cause I invented that (DISCLAIMER: I did not invent that).

J-rod leaves Portland today, to drive to, I don't know, Delaware? East Virginia?  It's all so painful, taking Emma away from her Guncle Rich before she ever watched her first Tonys with him. Drama, trauma, and not even a single Barbie product yet exchanged.  Sigh.

Well fuck you too someecards

I now have to link to a Facebook account to submit a user credit created (drunk this morning?!) card? Fuck y'all, denying the world the genius that is me:

Song of the Day: "Drinking and Driving Me Crazy"

What's not to love about a good ol' gal with songs like "Put Some South in Your Mouth" and "Ho in Rio"? That I can't find the regular album version of either of those songs in an embed-able video format.

This serves as a nice Plan C.

Erica Sunshine Lee from her fourth album I'm Still Me. I can't find tour dates on Pollstar but when she gets out to the west coast we are going to see her. I don't care how far the casino or county fair is, so long as it's within a tank of gas, we're there.

[UPDATE: She plays a free concert at Atlanta's Centennial Park at noon, Thursday July 26, 2012. My name appears on 2 different bricks at the park--you'll get triple Rebel Agenda miles if you send pictures of those bricks!]

Song of the Day: "Creep"

Back when I was little, like 3 or 4 years old, when my mom would work nights and my dad would tuck the kids in, he would sing Radiohead's "Creep" to us. So it's a perfect coincidence that Macy Gray includes this on her recent covers album Covered, what with today being Father's Day and all.

Of course the Jones family is not one to eschew original lyrics, so to this day "you're so fucking special" is what I sing. Even at a Emma's first birthday party yesterday. That's how we roll.
Emma's in there somewhere
