Song of the Day: "Think You Can Wait"

The National showed up on a list of songs eligible for Original Song consideration at this years Oscars, for this track from Win Win (which is NOT 50/50).

Song of the Day: "Following"

The triumphant return of The Phenomenal Handclap Band! Yes them.

A nice way to start 2012 ("start").

Song of the Day: "Collision of Worlds"

Cars and Cars 2 are the only Pixar movies I haven't seen (I think). This duet between Robbie Williams and Brad Paisley came to my attention as Oscar eligible. I love the pairing, although Macy Gray with either would be a little better.

Song of the Day: "An Angel on Each Arm"

Robin Thicke embraces 70s soul, R&B, and a bit of blues rock on Love After War--here's a bit of the latter.

Song of the Day: "Stay Away"

Charli XCX comes my way via Pitchfork's Top 100 Tracks of 2011. I'm reviewing others' lists to avoid missing something obvious (I still will). She's 19 years old, and Pitchfork puts this track at #35, in between Jamie xx and Cut Copy.

Song of the Day: "Otis"

Jay-Z and Kanye channel Otis Redding, but here's the thing: I feel like I've tried a little tenderness. To be honest, try a little more bitchiness, it works so much better.

Song of the Day: "Turn Me On"

David Guetta appears to rule dance music these days, so let's kick of 2012 with something from him with Nicki Minaj. At first blush, it's over-produced (and apparently when one uses auto-tune, it only goes to 11), but therein is part of the charm. It's big and stupid and only appropriate for Backstreets at 4:00 a.m. in a throng of people: the communal energy from shared euphoria. And vodka. And ketamine.

Wait, what?
