Happy birthday Joan Baez

Another artist whose significance over the past 4 decades is easy to overlook.

Happy birthday dude! Rock on!

More Bowie: Into The Night

A small, but fantastic role for Bowie.

Guess which hand has food

Here.

(Answer: Left)

And here.

(Answer: Right)

More Bowie: he's on The Venture Bros.!

That show is fucking brilliant. And they've made Bowie a character called "The Sovereign" who is basically the head of the Guild of Calamitous Intent. And a shape shifter (which explains so much).

See more Venture Bros. here.

More Bowie: "Rebel Rebel"

For her majesty (Rebel, not Bowie). I'm just gonna sprinkle in some Bowie brilliance throughout the weekend. 40 years of music, a visual sensibility that Lady Gaga can only dream of, and the business acumen to think of Bowie Bonds.

Happy birthday weekend dude! Rock on!

Song of the day: "Friday I'll Be Over U"

I hope you appreciate that I went to the effort to check whether this is "Over You" or "Over U" since I've seen it both ways.

Allison Iraheta is, apparently, some kind of American Idol competitor. I have seen maybe 5 episodes, back during Fantasia's season. This comes via Chris Wilson (thanks, also, why?).

I'm hearing it for the first time as I type this, but since I've gone through the effort see how her name is spelled, and the whole U/You thing, I'm posting it. I don't think it will take until Friday to be over this song...

Strike a pose

Jackie sent pics of Baxter that are too cute not to share. (Click picture to embiggen.)

Of course Midge doesn't require props to look glamorous, but not everyone has her innate style and diva beauty.

Happy birthday David Bowie

I'm too exhausted to do this properly, but I want to get something on here--I'll do more this weekend. But file him with "Julie Andrews" and "Michael Jordan" as in "try to appreciate while he's still around how fucking awesome he is."

The secret word is "gazzeted"

I wonder with FBI Director Robert Mueller has to say about this.

Cunty first

Remember that cranky old guy that picked that unqualified gal to be his running mate back in 2008? She went on to do stuff (like lie, quit, lie and pretend), but whatever happened to him? His name was John McCain (and he WASN'T born in the United States, by the way), and at 73 years old he is planning to run for re-election to the US Senate.

Given that he recently couldn't recall anyone EVER denying a Senator additional time (as Al Franken did to Joe [husband of whore Haddasah] Lieberman) even though he had done it himself mutliple times, he might be suffering from dementia or Alzheimers, so if I were an Arizona voter I'd look for someone younger, perhaps his daughter Cindy.

And part of his campaign is him bragging about how he's been obstructing Barrack Obama every day he's been in office. In his current campaign ad, McCain says:
"President Obama is leading an extreme, left wing crusade to bankrupt America, I stand in his way every day."
Given that all Republicans have provided in terms of input is the word "no" and childish delaying tactics, I'd say that's right.

But do you remember all that campaign rhetoric about how the country is in trouble and we need to focus on those problems, regardless of silly partisan bullshit? Yeah, that was just campaign bullshit, much like "Palin is qualified." Bullshit.

Anyway, if you remove the "o" and "r" from those old "Country First" sign, you'd be describing John McCain.

And I'm sure Obama's feeling really good about reaching out to McCain those very first days in office.

Song of the day: "Life Threads"

A new single from Lucy Kaplansky, who I've been following since hearing her on KERA in Dallas some 12 or 13 years ago.

Her husband's relations are size queens

From Mrs.Bashira Amir

Dear beloved one,

I will like to make myself brief.I am Mrs.Bashira Amir, the wife to Late
Dr.Husain Amir who was a merchant in Dubai, in the U.A.E. for nine years. We were
married for five year with a son.My husband died in an auto crash in the year
2001.I am left with our only son.

Recently, my Doctor told me that from the entire test conducted on my health, I
am not going to last long due to my cancer.

When my late husband was alive he secured $15Million (Fifteen Million
U.S.Dollars) with financial institution in European.Presently, this money is
still with the financial institution.

The fear i have now is that my husband relations are after my husband
property. They have sized most of his estates and business empire.

All i want from you is for you to help me receive this funds, take care of my
son and distribute it the way i will instruct you.As soon as i see
your reply.

I waits your prompt mail and response.

Thanks,
Mrs Bashira Amir

Song of the day: "Lamp Industries"

So this Young Fresh Fellows song is the last of my 2009 singles reminders, also. I'd been lamenting the fact that there was no video for this on the series of tubes, so tonight I decided to figure out how to make one myself. I used their album cover, and then decided to add pics of my dogs.

The song is fantastic and you can download it free here.

I can't find lyrics, and I need to go to bed since I need to be at my desk by 6:30, so you'll have to do without. But check out my video! Also thanks in advance to YFF for not suing me for using the music. Also, everyone, go buy their stuff!

Happy birthday Bonnie Franklin

I couldn't resist a reason to post the awesome theme song to One Day At A Time, written by Jeff Berry, whose credits include "River Deep, Mountain High" and "Leader of the Pack." [UPDATE: I just learned that he's being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this year with co-writer Ellie Greenwich; also ABBA and The Stooges]

Happy birthday Kassie

Ugh, work's been kicking my ass this week, and I totally spaced on Kassie's birthday (although I had planned weeks ago to take her to Avatar on Saturday, so that's her new "observed" birthday, so I'm not late). Anyway, I'm exhausted, so here's a Turkish Star Trek rip-off.

Happy birthday dude! Rock on!

Song of the day: "All The Pleasures Of The World"

Chris mentioned Australian band The Crayon Fields in an email recently, so thanks to him. A little Zombies, a little Byrds, and a little Nick Cave as an alto=pretty nice.

What's all that ruckus?

If it's this obvious, it doesn't count as foreshadowing.

So today I had an appointment with an energy auditor which is a step I needed to take before getting insulation to make sure I get any tax credits and rebates for the insulation and other weatherization improvements I make to my 100-year old house. Which are needed.

But I also needed to replace my sewer line. Some people take lavish trips, while some get to replace their sewer lines. And the plans on file with the city of Portland were not accurate. So it wasn't quite the slam dunk I'd hoped.

So I worked from home this morning until the energy audit, and after that wrapped, d'oh, no shower for me because I couldn't use any water. So today I've been working from home, amid the noise of back hoes and dogs barking at back hoes, etc.

The first two pictures are at night only because I thought to take a picture when I got home and discovered all the excitement. In the daylight I saw my brand new really large pipe.

Song of the day: "Cloud Nine"

Ben Howard, from later in 2009.

George W. Bush=worse than Nixon+Ford+Carter

I See What You Mean (here) helps us visualize exactly how much shittier George W. Bush was than, well, every other modern President. I mean, for us regular folks (us brush-cutting, plain talking folks)--the ultra wealthy are doing just fine.

Sigh.

When does he answer for his war crimes?

Click image to embiggen, but be forewarned, it's grim.

Song of the day: "Kick Drum Heart"

Another track from The Avett Brothers' I And Love And You album. Jared introduced me to them, and I think he hates this song. But I dig the percussion. It's the aural equivalent of something shiny. Oooh pretty.

Happy birthday Michael Stipe

This is as good a day as any to say to Becky "we told you he's gay!" (see also: Bob Mould).

I think that I will declare R.E.M. my Led Zeppelin. No good reason, just an enduring quality. The fans. Etc. Also I will do it at random times, possibly confusing cashiers at Target or the homeless who need 15 cents for the bus.

If you don't know R.E.M., start reading here. I have to get to work early and be productive this week, and I don't have time to teach a remedial class. It's one of those days. Also, sewer repair finally happening today! Can't think of anything I'd rather spend $4,500 on.

Here are some songs.

And please listen to the introduction to this song.

And there we have it. Happy birthday dude! Rock on!

Announcing the latest addition to the Jones gang

Her name is... something something. First name begins with an "A" and the middle name is something like "Brooke." Why has no one heeded my advice and gone with Trouble or Danger as a middle name?

This is my oldest nephew's first (that I know of). My second-oldest nephew has a son who is, amazingly, now 6 years old.

AB was born around 3:00 a.m. on January 2nd (as far as you know--look, you can't trust me with the first name do you really think I documented that?) and weighed more than 6 pounds. I'm pretty sure. And she might be 16"--is that a baby length (height)?

Here's what I DID pick up from that call: my nephew's girlfriend (who is NOT the baby momma) is supposedly a little upset that my neph is giving preference to his daughter. And that, my friends, is the whole reason I posted this.

I'm hoping for pics from my sister and perhaps the actual name. I'll do a revised post later.

Seasons Greetings from Angelina Keith

Greetings,

I am sure this mail would be coming to you as a surprise since we have never meet before and you would also be asking why I have decided to chose you amongst all the numerous internet users in the world, precisely I cannot say why I have chosen you but do not be worried for I come in peace and something very positive is about to happen to your life right now and to the lives of others through you if only you can carefully read and digest the message below.

Before I move further, permit me to give you a little of my biography, I am Mother Angelina Lucy Keith, 87 Years old woman and the wife of Late Sir Abery Keith who died in a Plane crash on Monday the 7th of September 1998 GMT 14:22 UK while they were flying from New York to Geneva. Please see site below for more information.

http://www.cnn.com/WORLD/9809/swissair.victims.list/index.html

After the death of my husband I became the Head of his investment and now that I am old and weak I have decided to spend the rest of my life in my Ranch before I finally leave the world, but before the death of my husband we had a plan to use the last days of our lives to donate half of what we have worked for to the less privilege and charity homes and the other half for ourselves, family members and close friends, and it is so  unfortunate that my husband is not alive today to do this with me and I am very weak and old now, hence I have decided to do this philanthropic work on behalf of my late husband.

Presently, I have willed out almost half of our assets to several charity homes and to some of the less privilege in different countries. Despite the agreement between my late husband and I to give aid to the deprived, we also agreed to render support to an individual we have not meet before in life due to the fact when we were still young in life we receive an anonymous help from an individual we did not know and which we have not being able to know till date, the impact we got from such gesture made us to do the same.

I am sorry to inform you that you will never have the chance to know me because I have just concluded the assignment which my husband and I have agreed upon before his sudden death and you happened to be the beneficiary of our last WILL, hence I need you to do me a favor by accepting our offer.

I deposited some fund in the sum of Ј1,800,000.00 (One Million Eight Hundred Thousand British Pounds) with DHL UK four weeks ago to deliver to you, but i was very ill so I could not send you an email until today. what you have to do now is to contact the DHL COURIER SERVICE UK as soon as possible to know when they will deliver your package to you.

PLEASE NOTE: the only money you are expected to pay is Ј160 British Pounds for the security keeping of the cheque so far

You are not to pay for the delivering Charges, the Insurance premium and the Clearance Certificate Fee of the Cheque because I have already paid for them. I would have paid  for the security keeping fee but the company insisted that I should not because they don't know when you will be contacting them and to avoid demurrage or further cost.

You have to contact the DHL COURIER SERVICE Dispatch officer now for the delivery of your cheque with this information below;

Dispatch Director: Mr.George Greg
Email Address:   DELETED@dhlexpressuk.co.uk
Phone: +447024057874

You are to reconfirm the below information to them to avoid any mistake on the Delivery and send them the Security keeping fee which is Ј160-($289) only.

Postal address;
Full Names:
Direct telephone number;
Security keeping code: (SCT/0433/F)

Please, try to contact them as soon as you receive this mail to avoid any further delay.

Be also notified that I will no longer be reading my emails or surfing the internet as I have retired completely from the outside world to my ranch, at this moment I have nothing to do with cars, emails and other luxuries, all further correspondence should be forwarded to the courier company for the delivery of your cheque to you.

Yours Faithfully,
Mrs. Angelina Keith
