Michelle Bachmann's stupid lie of the day

"I have the bill printed out on my desk, it’s over 1,000 pages long. On the 16th page, it says whatever health care you have now, it’s going to be gone within five years. So your current health care plan, you’re not going to have in five years. What you’re going to have is a government plan and a federal bureau is going to decide what you get or if you get anything at all."--Michelle Bachmann (R, MN)

Hey, what's that right below?! It looks like page 16! Hooray. Who can find what she's citing?

I have dibs on this drag name!

Crystal Pepsi... hands off bitches!

Every bit as much as Sonia Sotomayor hates white men.

Every bit.

You see, if you take a part of his comments in isolation, out of context, it looks really bad.

This is upsetting

I guess we will find out. Operation gay tweets will commence tonight.

SENATOR LINDSEY GRAHAM: Judge, before I read a string of anonymous comments about your temperament problem, I’d like to make you repeat that wise Latina remark again just for the heck of it.

JUDGE SOTOMAYOR: Thank you, Senator, for the opportunity to revisit that matter. I appreciate that the man who once said he’d drown himself if North Carolina went for Obama has a special contribution to make when it comes to the importance of thinking before you speak.

Much Emmy love for 30 Rock

22 nominations, including acting nominations for Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey, Tracy Morgan (finally), Jack McBrayer, Jane Krakowski (FINALLY!), Steve Martin, Jon Hamm, Alan Alda, Jennifer Aniston and Elaine Stritch. 4 of the 5 writing nominations are for 30 Rock episodes. 3 of the 5 direction nominations are for 30 Rock episodes. But, naturally, I'm disappointed that the song from "Kidney, Now" didn't make the cut.

Ah well.

More Cleveland tourism!

From 30 Rock:

Underappreciated: John Sayles

One of my favorites is Passion Fish: Mary McDonnell is a soap opera actress who is paralyzed and returns to southern Louisiana; Alfre Woodard is the nurse who needs the job. Fantastic acting by both women (don't get me started about how Marisa Tomei stole Woodard's Oscar, since Woodard really should have been in the lead actress category along with McDonnell). A variety of brief scenes for some great actors, including Leo Burmester, Nora Dunn, Tom Wright, Sheila Kelley and Angela Bassett--each given enough to make a nicely formed character, despite their fleeting screen time.

Vondie Curtis-Hall and David Strathairn are the love interests for Woodard and McDonnell.

Sayles and producer/actress Maggie Renzi both sneak in cameos as well.

Here's Mary McDonnell going through a few nurses:

Underappreciated: John Sayles

Return of the Secaucus 7, which I'm sure I will spell inconsistently any time I reference it, is Sayles's first feature as auteur.

Released in 1980, it's often cited as similar to the later-released Big Chill, but while both feature baby boomer reunions I don't know how similar they are. The Sayles/Kasdan link between City of Hope and Grand Canyon helps fuel this, but again, I don't know how much is there.

Among the notable actors here: future Oscar nominee David Strathairn; Sayles himself; Maggie Renzi (a regular in Sayles early films); Gordon Clapp (NYPD Blue); and Adam LeFevre.

I came to this movie late--already a fan of Sayles, watching it with Sayles present when he attended a week of screenings of his various movies at the Northwest Film Center in Portland. When he couldn't remember the name of Grand Canyon, I provided it. When an idiot asked him about the ending to the movie Limbo, I groaned. My touch with greatness (cough). Anyway, the movie itself, is charming but not monumental. It captures a mood, a sentimentality without being overly sweet.

Its Rotten Tomatoes score is 79% fresh, and it received awards from the LA Film Critics and the Boston Film Critics.

"[We] hear a lot about judicial activism when politicians talk about what kind of judge they want in the Supreme Court. So fucking cute!

He lacks the character of Gracie, the deep moodiness of Midge, or the shear optimism of Willy. But for looks, he's got it! My sister and brother-in-law are (maybe) adopting him.

Underappreciated: John Sayles

If I could pick a "Hollywood career" for my own, all in all, I think I would want John Sayles's. 30 years and still strong, he makes fantastic movies. Movies one would be proud to call his own. He writes them. He directs them. He produces them (with help). He edits them. Sometimes he acts in them (with enough screen time to be recognizable, but not so much that he'd get stalked by paparazzi).

He funds his own movies by writing horror movies (Piranha, Alligator, The Howling) and script doctoring (The Fugitive, Apollo 13) others.

He owns his movies. Highly unusual.

He's personally received 2 Oscar nominations (original screenplay for Lone Star, and for Passion Fish) and dozens of critics awards. His films have picked up a few more.

It's especially notable that his first film, The Return of the Secaucus 7, has been selected by the Library of Congress for its National Film Registry.

Blah blah blah.

Among my personal favorites is Matewan (1987), based on the true story of coal miners fight to unionize in West Virginia in the 1920s. The cast includes Chris Cooper, Mary McDonnell, James Earl Jones and David Strathairn. Its cinematography by Haskell Wexler earned an Oscar nomination. Its Rotten Tomatoes score is 100%.

So why haven't you seen it?

Well, empathy is fine from Republicans...

Today is a day of much $ for me

From the Desk of:
Mr.Samuel Hou Thanong

With great pleasure Mr.Samuel Hou Thanong, working with a bank here in Bangkok-Thailand as a Manager. I am writing you in respect of a foreign customer (an Oil consultant/contractor with our National Oil & Liquidified Gas Sector) whom made a US$25M depository for an investment program that has remained dormant for years now. Hence, I have decided to contact you due to the urgency of this

On personal investigation, I discovered that the account holder died on December 2002 in the Ukrainian aircraft crash. I made further investigation and discovered that the customer died without making a WILL on the depository.

It may interest you to know that I am only contacting you as a foreigner because this money cannot be approved to a local Bank account here, but can only be approved to a foreigner with an account since the money is in US Dollars. I have decided as a matter of urgency upon this discovery now seek your permission to have you stand as next of kin to the fund as No one has ever come forward to claim this fund. It may also interest you to know that I have secured from the probate an ORDER OF MADAMUS to locate any of deceased beneficiary. In accordance to Thailand Law, fund deposited for over a period of Six (6) years without claim will be reverted to the Government treasury,if nobody applies to claim this fund.

I will like you to provide immediately your full Names and Address, Date of Birth, Occupation, Tel & Fax Numbers so that an Attorney will be able to prepare the necessary documents and affidavit which will put you in place as the next of kin. The Attorney will draft and carry out the notarization of the WILL and also obtain the necessary documents and letter of probate/administration in your favour for the transfer.

At the successful conclusion of this business, your goodself shall be entitled to have 40% that is, USD$10M of the total money while I will have 55% that is USD$13.750M and 5% that is USD$1.250M for communications and other expenses. I am ready to invest a reasonable percentage of mine into any viable business you suggest as a joint partner. Your percentage will also be a source of upliftment.
You have absolutely nothing to LOSE in assisting me instead, you have so much to GAIN. Be rest assured that this transaction would be most profitable for both of us.

Your response is highly imperative as this is a TWO-man business deal transaction as I shall then provide you with more details and relevant documents that will help you understand the transaction. I need your
assistance and co-operation to this reality as I have done my Home-work and fine tune the best way to create you as the beneficiary while I would use my connection and money to secure almost all the paperwork for this transaction which will be done by the Attorney and my position as the Branch Manager guarantees the successful execution of this transaction with you as the beneficiary to this fund.and do know that this transaction required a very little financial efforts and assistance which both of us as partner will be financially involve and handle the cost of expenses.

I will appreciate your early reply for commencement of business. Contact me for acknowledgment by E-mail and whereby you are not interested, please indicate in your reply so that I can seek for the assistance of someone else.

If this proposal is acceptable by you, I expect that you will not take undue advantage of the trust I Will bestow in you. I await your urgent response. Please should you are interested in this transaction, kindly reply and respond to me via this email adress and please if you know that you can not in any way support nor finance this transaction, do not reply as its capital intensive and as such require a very little financial efforts which both of us as partner will be financially responsible.

You are advice to direct or contact me via the above..

Telephone No.+66846700568

Thanks with great regards.

Mr.Samuel Hou Thanong

Hey, anyone need a job?

Dear Sir/Ma,

Would you like to work online from Home/Temporarily and get paid weekly? We are glad to offer you for a job position at our company, Textiles Direct Limited We need someone to work for the company as a Representative/Bookkeeper in the USA. This is in view of our not having an office presently in the USA. You don’t need to have an Office and this certainly wont disturb any form of work you have going at the moment.

Our integrated yarn and fabric manufacturing operations use state-of-the-art equipment from the world's leading suppliers. Order processing, production monitoring and process flow are seamlessly integratedthrough a company-wide computer network.

* The average monthly income is about 4000.00 USD.
* No form of investments from you.
* This job takes only 1-3 hours per day

About the job:

We have sales representatives all over the world to distribute our products. You know, that it's not easy to start a business in a new market (being the US). There are hundreds of competitors, close direct contacts between suppliers and customers and other difficulties, which impede our sales promotion. We have decided to deliver the products upfront, it's very risky but it should push up sales on 25 percent. Thus we need to get payments for our products as soon as it possible. Unfortunately we are unable to open Bank Accounts in the United US without first registering the company name. Presently with the amount of Orders we have, we cannot put them on hold. For fear of loosing the customers out rightly.

Secondly we cannot cash these payments from the US soon enough, as international Checks take about 14 working days for cash to be made Available. We lose about 75,000 USD of net income each month because we Have money Transfer delays* your task is to coordinate payments from customers and Help us with the payment process. You are not involved in any sales. Our Sales Representative makes direct contact for sales of products. Once orders are received and sorted we deliver the product to a customer (usually through FEDEX). The customer receives and checks the products. After this has been done The customer has to pay for the products. About 90 percent of our customers prefer to pay through Certified Checks and Money orders based on the amount involved.

YOUR TASK we have decided to open this new job position for solving this problem.
Your tasks are;
1. Receive payment from Customers
2. Cash Payment at your Bank
3. Deduct 10% which will be your percentage/pay on Payment processed
4. Forward balance after deduction of percentage/pay to any of the offices you will be contacted to send payment to.(Payment is to be forwarded by Western Union Money Transfer).

Local Money transfers take barely hours, so it will give us a possibility to get customer's payment almost immediately.

For example you've got 3000.00USD
You take your income: 300.00 USD
Send to us: 2700.00 USD
First month you will have 15-20 transactions on 3000.00-4000.00 USD so you may calculate your income.
For example 10 transactions on 3500.00 USD gives you 3500.00 USD
Plus your basis monthly salary is 1000.00 USD
Total: 4500.00 USD per month

After establishing a close co-operation with us you'll be able to operate with larger orders and you'll be able to earn more. Our payments will be issued out in your name and you can have them cashed in your bank or other Cashing Services. Deduct your weekly salary and forward the balance to the company via western union money transfer. We understand it is an unusual and incredible job position. This job takes only 3-7 hours per week. You'll have a lot of free time doing another job, you'll get good income and regular job.

Yes it is. As a matter of fact, our legal department checked all legal provisions to ensure if there is any domestic or international law against businesses or deals in this manner and also money laundry acts, also it complies with USA Patriot Act Section 314(b)

But this job is very challenging and you should understand it. We are looking only for the worker who satisfies our requirements, a diligent worker, very consistent and will be an earnest assistant. She is deaf AND has breast cancer... hot

From Mrs Melissa Fowler

I am Mrs.Melissa Fowler from Denmark,I am 68 years old,i am deaf and suffering from a long time cancer of the breast ,from all indication my conditions is really deteriorating and it is quite obvious that i can't work or do any stressful thing, according to my doctors they have advised me that i may not live for the next two months, this is because the cancer stage has gotten to a very bad stage. I was brought up from a motherless babies home was married to my late husband for twenty years without a child, My Husband (Mr.Robert Fowler) died in a fatal motor accident Before his death we were true Christians.

Since his death I decided not to re-marry,I sold all my inherited belongings and deposited all the sum of US8.6million with a Security Company in Madrid Spain.

Presently, this money is still with them and the management just wrote me as the true owner to come forward to receive the money for keeping it so long with attract a demurage fees as the security fees paid by me has expired or rather issue a letter of authorization to somebody to receive it on my behalf since I can not come over because of my illness or they get it confisticated. So instead of getting it confiscated i rather have someone whom i can trust to recieve the funds and utilise it according to my wishes. And the best part of it is ,The security company told me in the letter that they can have the consignment funds delivered to my approved next of kin in his house if within Spain or transfered to his bank account and if outside Spain then transfered to his or her bank account.

Presently, I'm with my laptop in a hospital in Basel Switzerland where I have been undergoing treatment for my sickness . I have since lost my ability to talk and my doctors have told me that I have only a 2 months to live. It is my last wish to see that this money is invested/donated to any organisation/buisness of your choice and distributed each year among the charity organization,E.g the poor homes, the motherless babies home where i came from, the deaf homes, and churces etc .All i seek for is a God fearing person like you, who will carry out my last wishes and before i emailed you today i prayed and the holy spirit gave me the confidence to send you this email.I took this decision, before i rest in peace because my time will soon be up.

As soon as I receive your reply I shall give you the contact of the Security Company in Spain. All i need from you is a confidential assurance that the funds when recieved by you will be used for the said purpose,Nowadays there are so much scams going on in the internet and it is diffcult to trust but i dont know why the Holy spirit still approved me to email you about this out of few email addresses i have from the internet, yours was the only one that was approved for me to contact.

Waiting for your reply.

Yours In Christ,
Mrs. Melissa Fowler

OMG Elvis contacted me!

I Am Mr Adekunle Elvis. a computer scientist working with central bank of Nigeria. I just started work with C.B.N. and I came across your file which was marked X and your released disk painted RED, I took time to study it and found out that you have paid VIRTUALLY all fees and but the fund was not released to you.

The most annoying thing is that they won't tell you the truth that on no account will they ever release the fund to you, instead they allow you spend money unnecessarily, I do not intend to work here all the days of my life, I can release this fund to you if you can certify me of my security.

I needed to do this because you need to know the statues of your Funds and cause for the delay, Please this is like a Mafia setting in Nigeria, you may not understand it because you are not a Nigerian. The only thing needed to release this fund is the Anti drug/terrorist clearance certificate which will be tendered to any of your nominated bank and the INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE(IRS)for clearance of the transfered amount in your account.

Once the Anti drug /terrorist clearance certificate is obtained funds will immediately reflect in your bank within 10 Minutes, the certificate is all that is needed to complete this transaction.

Note that the actual funds is valued at $15.5 MILLION USD and the president made a compensation fund release for all unpaid beneficiary valued at $10 million usd.

Who said it?

"When I get a case about discrimination, I have to think about people in my own family who suffered discrimination because of their ethnic background or because of religion or because of gender. And I do take that into account."

No, not Sonia Sotomayor. This time it's Samuel Alito! Go figure.

Who said it?

"I believe, Senator, that I can make a contribution, that I can bring something different to the Court, that I can walk in the shoes of the people who are affected by what the Court does."

No, not Sonia Sotomayor, the WISE LATINA filled with nothing but hate for the white man (especially the white fireman) and empathy for minorities. Nope. It's Clarence (don't utter a word during oral arguments) Thomas. Go figure.

Rock on! New Surgeon General nominee

Quote of the day

"Please . . . no more Senators talking about things."

Glenn Greenwald, watching the Sotomayor confirmation hearings, via his twitter page.

Let me take your statement out of context

Dear Lindsey Graham:

1. Sonia Sotomayor never once said she was better than a white man. Go re-read the quote.

2. Just fucking come out of the closet all ready.

Song of the day: "I Don't Ever Give Up"

This is from 2007 or early 2008, but not old enough to qualify as a "flashback" so I'll include it here. Patty Griffin.

Flashback song: "Jimmy Mack"

Original by Martha Reeves and the Vandellas (well, I assume it's the original--it may just be the earliest notable version) from mid-60s:

And from the late great Karen Carpenter:

And, randomly, here's a Sheena Easton cover:

Happy birthday Cameron Crowe

I have issues with the final product, but there is no disputing that you have one of the best ears for music and how to use it in your movies. And the dialog. Inspired. Even in Jerry fucking Maguire. Especially in Jerry fucking Maguire.

Happy birthday Patrick Stewart

Happy birthday Deborah Cox

The Valley Club opens doors to minorities

The private swim club that made headlines by denying access to black kids from a summer camp that had made arrangements to use the facilities has invited the kids back.

To accommodate the extra kids, the club will be extending hours--they will be:
6 a.m. to 9 a.m. -- regular member lap swimming
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. -- regular member open swim
4 p.m. to 6 p.m. -- regular member class
6 p.m. to 9 p.m. -- regular member open swim
9 p.m. to midnight -- summer member swim session
midnight -- pool is drained, scrubbed and refilled with untainted water

Yes of course she is

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin says she is not only staying in politics once she leaves the governor's office later this month, she's jumping right back into the national fray.

Song of the day: "Maybe California"

Flashback song: "Fourth of July"

The version by X:

And a live version by John Doe that sounds like he's channeling the X version (his album version is much more basic):

Happy birthday Bill Cosby

Happy birthday Richard Simmons

Happy birthday Christine McVie

hsppy birthday Cheyenne Jackson

Happy birthday Topher Grace
